Recently I was watching YouTube and saw a video about restoring broken plastic.
It used a heating wire to drive metallic supports into the broken plastic and then finish the surface.
Looking it up, I found out you can even repair broken car bumpers with this method.
According to my search, this tool is called a hot stapler, or a plastic welder.
When I searched on AliExpress, it was 9.74 dollars, which is about 13,000 won.
I couldn’t resist.

It arrived at my house a week after I bought it.
The set consists of a hot stapler gun and staples.

Conveniently, I had a broken Stokke cup holder at home, so I decided to try restoring it.
The transparent liquid on the cup is a trace of a previous attempt to fix it with epoxy.

When you pull the trigger on the gun, it heats up within 5 seconds and the staple melts into the cup.

I like things sturdy, so I drove staples in from both sides.

Now you just have to cut off the protruding parts, but without knowing any better I finished it off with nippers.
Later I found out that if you simply bend them left and right a few times with radio pliers, the ends will snap off on their own.

In any case, I finished it like this and sanded it down a little.
Looking online, after this step people put the hot stapler tip back in and rub it over the surface to even out the finish.
Then if you apply putty and paint it, you get a complete repair.
I decided to leave it like this for the “engineering aesthetics”.

After doing this, the cup holder that nothing seemed able to fix was finally repaired.
They say it’s extremely useful for plastic products that still need to retain flexibility.
If you have a broken plastic item at home and there’s no replacement available, I hope you’ll try fixing it like this.
