I’d been wanting to buy a rivet setter for a while when I saw a rivet setter on AliExpress being sold for 31.14 dollars including the molds.
When I converted it, it came out to a little over 40,000 won.

In leathercraft, what really matters is not the money but the finish.
Even if something is 20,000 won cheaper, there’s absolutely no reason to buy it if the finish is worse than a domestic product.
When I searched, there were no reviews, so I decided to take the lead myself.

It arrived one week after I ordered.
AliExpress shipping has really sped up, so it feels worth the wait now.

When I opened the package, the rivet press was disassembled.
I just had to put it together by hand.

It even came with an instruction manual, which was nice.
Apparently, you can adjust the pressing force with the screw at the top.

I also unpacked the included molds.

The molds were neatly organized by size, but there was a ton of some kind of black stuff stuck on them.
It looked like metal dust or abrasive residue.

So I decided to wipe down all the molds once with guitar string cleaner.

I took them all apart and cleaned each one thoroughly.

If you look at the photo below, you can see some scratches on the molds.
As you’d expect for the price, the finishing quality isn’t great.

A huge amount of black residue came off.
After cleaning them well, the color even looked a bit brighter.

The guitar string cleaner also has anti-rust properties, so I’m hoping it will help prevent rust too.

Now for the most important part: the performance test.
I’ll start by setting the top part of the spring snap.

After pressing it, the cross-section looks slightly misaligned.
Still, it’s far better than when I do it by hand.

I set the bottom part the same way.
It went in just fine without any particular issues.

Considering the price, the quality doesn’t seem bad at all.
If you do leathercraft as a hobby, you can get this on AliExpress including all the molds for under 100,000 won.
I’d recommend giving it a try.
