One day, while preparing for a class related to dunes, I found out that there is an incredibly large dune in Korea.
I saw a photo that was said to be taken in winter, and it looked like a desert.
I was so curious that I decided to visit.
Taean Sinduri Coastal Dunes
263-1 Sindu-ri, Gonbukan-myeon, Taean-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, Republic of Korea
I arrived at the parking lot of Sinduri Coastal Dunes and got out of the car.
As soon as I got out, we were greeted by an immense sea fog.
When cold seawater meets warm air, the temperature of the atmosphere drops, causing condensation, and the fog that forms this way from the sea is called sea fog. At Sinduri
Coast, the sea fog was so thick that the visibility was barely 100-200 meters.
It seemed to have been caused by the north wind blowing and the upwelling of seawater due to Ekman transport.

The sea fog was so fascinating that I walked along the beach instead of entering the dunes.
The thick sea fog blocked the sunlight, making the beach feel immensely cool.
I thought it would be nice to come camping here during the summer and rest for a few days.
I wanted to take a dreamy photo with my wife, so I asked her to walk far away.
As she went more than 50 meters, her figure gradually disappeared.

I entered the entrance of the Sinduri Coastal Dunes.
To prevent damage to the coastal dunes, a deck path for tourists to walk on was created.
Instead, going up on the dunes or entering inside is restricted.
I wanted to take a photo from the top of the dunes but was disappointed.

During the summer, grass and flowers bloom on the dunes.
So it felt more like a grassland than a desert.
If you want to see a real desert-like appearance, you should go in winter.

It takes just over 30 minutes to look around the Sinduri Coastal Dunes.
Inside, there are a few photo spots where, taking pictures behind the giant dunes made it feel like being in a desert.

Even going up on the dunes, it feels like a grassland mostly due to the grass in summer.
I thought I must visit again in winter.

In summer, experience the sea fog and sand dunes, and in winter, feel Korea’s desert at Sinduri Coastal Dunes.
If you have children, visiting the Sinduri Dune Center might be a good idea for educational purposes.
We can’t go now because my wife is due soon, but I definitely want to visit in winter next year.
